So much has changed in the past couple years. My marriage is rocking it. We graduated college and are buying a house. We're also working on punching infertility in the face. I've been posting over on wordpress for a couple years now (I like the format better than blogger), come check out my blog there: frommybathtub.wordpress.com

Life and such

Today was my dad's birthday and we went out to dinner. I <3 my siblings (and my niece). =)

China was a blast. I'll go back sometime soon. Check my fb for pictures. Blogspot was blocked there, so no blogging occurred, unfortunately. I think I might just post the emails I sent to my family. They give pretty good descriptions. =)

I'll work on that later. <3

Hopping on the Metal Bird

Well, I'm leaving for China tonight. Yikes. I'm just about packed. Just need to update my ipod, pack the cameras, and take a shower. Still very nervous.
I didn't get much sleep last night, so I'm exhausted. That may be a good thing though. Maybe I'll actually sleep on the plane.

We had a nice mini-breakfast with my mother- and father-in-law today. I don't think I've been up for an 8am breakfast in a long time. Eric was in Shanghai about a year ago, so he was giving me some good pointers. I definitely appreciated it. =) If he survived the trip, maybe I will too.. lol!

On another note, I'm really going to miss Jeremy. And the kittens and goldfish. But mostly Jeremy. =P He's got quite a few projects planned for while I'm gone. Modifying his roller-blades, watching movies I hate, computer games, unhealthy food, and a new blog sound like they're just some of his projects. ha! His new blog should be interesting. I'll let you know if he ever gets around to it. Part of me hopes he does, and part of me dreads the idea of Jeremy unleashing his ideas into the world. =P

Well, I hear his hockey game calling to me... I'll post asap when I get to China. Love you all!!

So Out of Touch

We FINALLY have internet again.. Took long enough. We've moved into our new place, but alas, the unpacking is not finished. The painting is getting there. Jeremy just finished the bathroom and it looks fabulous. Very Blue. The Sunroom needs a few touch-ups still, but its also looking good. We haven't even started on the kitchen, living room, dinning room, bedroom or hallway yet....
It will have to wait.
I just finished my midterms and now it is OFFICIALLY time to get ready for CHINA!!! I leave on Saturday night. Can you believe it?!?! We've been planning this trip for so long and its finally here. (Very much reminds me of wedding planning. On a lesser and totally not as awesome scale of course... ;-) ).
Meanwhile, I've actually begun to realize that we'll be on a plane for 14+ hours... My flying phobia is kicking into high gear. I know its illogical, but we'll call it my vice.. =P I stocked up on Advil PM, so I will be taking it.. A LOT of it...
I've heard that facebook is completely blocked out there, so I'm really hoping that blogspot is unblocked for the couple weeks we'll be there. Otherwise I'll have to rely on (*gasp*) phone calls and postcards.... =/ Oh my. I actually created a skype account today, so hopefully that will be fully functional as well.

Cross your fingers for me. I'll be on again before we leave... off to ZUMBA to relieve some very high stress levels. =P

Knitting in Subways with Boys

I love knitting in public. I love when older women look at you and make you feel like you're apart of a special society. I love when perfect strangers (usually older men who's mothers used to knit for them) sit down next to you and ask you what you're making and if its hard. Today a man asked me if I know of any male knitters. We had a nice conversation about my socks and my Local Yarn Store's collection of men who knit. Just before this past Christmas, I was knitting my father-in-law a luscious baby alpaca scarf when two gangstas got on the train and sat across from me. They struck up a conversation and asked the usual: what are you making, how long have you been knitting, etc. They started discussing how nice it would be to receive a handmade present and then proceeded to totally change topics and discuss the last time they were in prison... ;-)

I find knitting on the trains to be more relaxing than knitting at home on my couch. When I'm home, I always feel like there's something else I should be doing, but on the train I'm just waiting to get off.
I love the people I meet through knitting. My club at Roosevelt University, RU Stitch 'n Bitch, especially has allowed me to meet and get to know some really unique and awesome individuals.
Many women claim they're afraid to knit in public. The feminist movements have really done a number on the general view of knitting. I'm as much a feminist as the next 20-something female college student, but when I knit, I feel so in touch with my ancestors, and early settlers who had to knit to survive. Knitting is such an ancient art that grew and moved through the generations to become what it is today. We may not need to knit to survive, but we also don't need television to survive. We don't need organized sports to survive. We don't need millions of things in this world to survive, but we have them and do them because we enjoy them.

So, to those (especially that stupid boy in the lounge a few weeks ago) who think knitting is for old ladies and subservient women, in the words of my 4-year-old niece, you can HOOK IT! ;-)

Proof That My Friends Are Amazing:

I received a present today....

<-- One of my very best friends knew I've been a little everywhere and stressed lately and she bought me this BEAUTIFUL Alp Light 611 yarn by Feza. I'd been eying it for months, but couldn't bring myself to buy it. I'm thinking a super cute wrap. =)

I think a pair of thank you socks are in order... =P Thank you, Christine!!

The Word of the Day: Socks

I decided that before I go to China next month, I MUST learn how to knit socks. I've heard its the best project to take on a plane as its small and takes some time. With 20+ hours of traveling each way, I will have lots of time.

And so, these are my new wool socks. They're super warm and comfy! As they were my first pair, I used worsted weight. I tend to get bored and thought they'd go a little fast if I didn't use sock weight. They were very quick.
Now, I'm working on sock weight yarn and its taking forever... lol!
